Life can get really crazy, really fast in this town. It’s so easy to get stuck in “I just gotta make it” mode that if you don’t consciously make the effort to calm yourself, you will turn into one hectic ball of tension. One of the amazing things about this city, however, is it’s little community gems that can serve as quick escape. I was introduced to Westsider Books by my friend Marquita a while back and have been hooked ever since. Books have always been a fancy of mine – even as a kid, I would bug my parents about needing a new book weekly, and some of my FAVORITE memories in elementary school were book fairs. I was one of those children who always needed a million different creative outlets just to keep myself (and my parents, no less) sane – and reading, escaping to brand new worlds, becoming new characters, learning various ways of thinking…that did it for me. It still does.

I’ve come to treat this store as a personal library, lol. It’s not very far from my apartment, so on days when I just need an aimless stroll to clear my head, I end up here… perusing, digging, getting lost. And ev-er-y-time I leave, its as if I had been in some kind of time warp where eons had passed by in the outside world. I always leave re-inspired. Refueled.
